Hi Ansley, you can always layer latex or oil based paint over oil based primer, but it doesn’t work that well the other way around – I wouldn’t put oil based paint on top of latex primer, but most of the water based paints these days are so great there’s no need to use oil based paints, the modern enamels are especially nice for furniture. It provides a sound base for topcoats while reducing or potentially eliminating the need for sanding dense, glossy surfaces. latex paints may take one to four weeks to cure. Great blog! Being water-soluble, Valspar Bonding Primer-Sealer easily cleans up or thins with water. I would use that anywhere in the house. Can you use spray paint over the primer?
